Ahhhhh… Memorial Day Weekend and the whole retail world is on sale.
Of course, we’re supposed to be honoring our service men and women and vets, as well as the memories of those who have kept our country free for the last 250 years, but the advertisers are trying to shift our focus. Crafty little blighters.
I’m sure you’ve gotten every home decor email under the sun saying “20% Off Everything,” blah, blah, blah. I’ve gotten them, too. I honestly don’t feel any anxiety that I have to buy anything this weekend anymore, though. I know the sales will come back around the next holiday — as long as I don’t mind running the risk of things being discontinued. (Oh, the horror!)
That being said, I did get ONE email this week that actually induced me to click. Apparently Minted is jumping on the mural bandwagon.
Wall murals — as opposed to scenic wallpaper with a repeat — aren’t for everyone or every space, but I do think they have a place in certain style homes and especially in kid/teen bedrooms. Just IMO.
Much like it does with art, Minted is asking people to vote on their favorites from 102 mural choices. The winners will be sold through the site in the future.
.
However, all 102 are available at 50% off through Tuesday.
Now, that I find intriguing.
.
You can see the whole collection here (for some reason, it’s really hard to find the collection on Minted’s website). Sizes are 9′ x 12′, 9′ x 9′, and 9′ x 7′. While a 12′ long mural might take a whole wall, there probably aren’t that many rooms that easily accommodate 9′ or 7′ long. However, I think those pieces could be candidates for cutting down into large art, or splitting into framed panels (link to a good DIY tutorial further down).
There are some really beautiful, painterly pieces. And if you live in California, you’re in luck! There are some awesome plein air style murals.
Some of my favorites below, along with a “Modern Vintage Teen Girl’s Room” inspired by one of the murals, where every single item shown (except one), is on sale this weekend! (I wouldn’t expect anything less, would you? 😉 )
.
“Leaving Ojai” by Sue Prue
.
“Emily’s Mark” by Fourth Artist Project
.
“Meadow Land” by Lindsay Megahed
.
“Cascade” by Sonal Nathwani
.
I think “Cascade” would be a wonderful candidate for splitting into 2 or three panels and doing an inexpensive DIY frame job. Kristin at The Hunted Interior has a wonderful tutorial.
.
This is another piece I think would be fabulous cut up into a group — like a set of 4 or 6. Hope the artist wouldn’t mind!

“Tomah” by Kristin Doversberger
.
The problem I see with this sale is that Tuesday is only a few days away. That doesn’t give a person a whole lot of time in which to conceive and and pull the plug on purchasing for a room, and, as you know, I’m a planner! So, I decided to plan a room inspired by one of the more abstract murals and put it together with a lot of vintage-style decor for a hypothetical teen girl.
.
Obviously, the mural is 50% off, but I decided to go retail with this room plan so that everything else is discounted 15-30% off this weekend as well.
Oh! Except for the Ro Sham Beaux look-alike via Etsy! That’s normal price, but I wanted to let you know about that seller — great source. 🙂
“Green Hills” by Erin McCluskey Wheeler / Belgian Linen Duvet & Sham in White
Pink Pillow / My favorite cheap organic cotton sheets
Pineapple Lamp / Washed Wood Nightstand / Coral Jenny Lind Bed
Coral Velvet Drapes with Aqua Trim / Rug
Kelly Green Linen Chair / Floral & Teal Throw Pillow / Beaded Light Fixture
Mirror / Raffia Wrapped Dresser
.
Do you have a teen girl ready for a room makeover???
.
Wishing you all the best for a happy and “memorable” Memorial Day Weekend! God bless America and all who defend and protect her (and us).
‘Til next week!
-Amy
