How To Create Your
Casually Trad Home Style
Having a forever house is like being in a committed, long-term relationship. There are qualities you may LOVE about your partner (your house in this scenario), but there also may be things you DON’T like…. and the areas where your personalities clash may be causing “compatibility issues.”
These “compatibility issues” usually arise when there is a disconnect between the natural bent of your home’s architecture and your own style preferences.
They manifest themselves when you try to decorate your home but nothing seems to work or you’re too overwhelmed to even try!
But there’s a way for you and your forever house to CREATE A RELATIONSHIP & BRING OUT THE BEST in each other!
Steps to a Casually Trad Style "Relationship"
So — here’s the compatibility issue: Both you AND your house really do well with traditional style … but your home’s simpler details call for something less formal.
In your case, a decor style like Casually Trad — which is comfortable, familiar, and totally unfussy– is the best way to go for both you AND your home.
Furniture silhouettes in this style defer to the traditional-leaning architecture of your home, but in an informal way, utilizing less complex fabric patterns and matte finishes for a relaxed look that won’t overshadow your home’s simple fixed details.
- Make sure that all your major upholstery have silhouettes that are traditional in design — like rounded arms, tapered or turned legs, & skirts.
- Throw in some “brown” furniture. (Adding some high-quality vintage pieces will give your room soul & are easy on the wallet.)
- Stay away from more contemporary furniture elements, like squared arms & legs and metal frames.
- To keep it causal, use fabric textures & patterns that are as casual as your style — cottons & linens, nubby wovens, and less complex patterns like small scales, simple botanicals, & open geometrics. Definitely nothing to shiny, glam, or overly intricate! you would like to include.
