Having a forever house is like being in a committed, long-term relationship. There are qualities you may LOVE about your partner (your house in this scenario), but there also may be things you DON’T like…. and the areas where your personalities clash may be causing “compatibility issues.”
These “compatibility issues” usually arise when there is a disconnect between the natural bent of your home’s architecture and your own style preferences.
They manifest themselves when you try to decorate your home but nothing seems to work or you’re too overwhelmed to even try!
But there’s a way for you and your forever house to CREATE A RELATIONSHIP & BRING OUT THE BEST in each other!
Steps to a Style Setter Design "Relationship"
So — here’s the compatibility issue: You want your home to be timeless … but you also really love some modern things. Lucky for you, your house’s architecture is flexible enough to accommodate BOTH of your wishes!
In your case, a fun & fashion-forward style like Style Setter — which employs simple silhouettes mixed with contemporary (even a little edgy) elements — is a great blended style for you.
By keeping your major furnishings transitional in style — with its clean lines & fresh take on more traditional silhouettes — your home will be grounded in a timeless feel. Then throw in a sculptural, fun, or modern accent piece here and there to satisfy your sophisticated side!
- Make sure that most of your major upholstery have silhouettes that are transitional in design — like sloped arms, tapered legs, & dressmaker skirts.
- Get your modern fix in smaller accent pieces — lighting, accent tables, & art are a great place to start.
- Let one of your modern pieces be black or have a metallic glamor.
- Try something “offbeat & unexpected” — e.g. a funky conversational chair that is either really modern or totally antique-y trad, pairing a granny-chic floral with a tribal geometric fabric, hanging pop or graphic art.
