Pictures of the summer show houses are coming out and flooding the web, eagerly awaited by those of us who can’t go. Marcus Design and Elements of Style have leaked pics of the Coastal Living Showhouse by Mark Sikes (a blue and white beauty), and there are some really creative, drop dead gorgeous rooms in the 2017 Hamptons Show House available for all to see on Instagram.
However, for me, the one that has stolen my heart is the 2017 Southern Living Idea House with interior design done by one of my favorite gals, Lindsey Coral Harper. Lindsey’s been the darling of the shelter magazines for a few years now, but when I saw her work for the SL Idea House, the colors are what blew me away.

Come on! A living room that’s CREAM!!! (And brown, and bits of coral and emerald.) I’ve never been a huge fan of the bright white, blown out, minimalist trend, and to see someone of my own generation embracing a warm ivory just makes me sigh with happiness. Those lampshades are from Bunny Williams’ Wild Ginger shades. For my post on a similar look for a lot less, read my post on these Etsy lamp shade makers. Super cool coral side tables are by Fabulous Things Atlanta — they have such wonderful finishes!
I first fell for Lindsey’s work when Southern Living profiled her makeover of the presidential suite in the Greystone Inn on Lake Toxaway.

Only a true design, granny-chic bad-a** could rock that many plaids and pull it off without making you feel like you’re knee-deep in Highland heather (not that that is a bad thing either!).
Southern Living’s online story is, frankly, the best, most in-depth show house tour I’ve ever read. In a first (at least I think it’s a first — but I may have been clueless during prior show house iterations), the magazine has provided a free iTunes app where you can download all the sources. It’s huge and tedious to go through, but it lists pretty much everything! I’ve already bookmarked some items for my own idea boards. Unfortunately, there are a number of vintage or designer’s own collection things (like the awesome living room coffee table).
But it’s the colors that really get me in this project. I must spread the message of all this unusual color — creams, Yellows, Oranges, EMERALDS, YESSSSSS! But she hasn’t forgotten my favorite combo of blues and greens, either. Lindsey’s such a sweet girl.

Cream is so ready for a comeback. Lindsey uses Sherwin-Williams Antique White on the walls of the living room, dining area, and kitchen and Pearly White on the ceilings. Window sashes are Sherwin-Williams Urbane Bronze. We’ve all seen Visual Comfort’s Morris lantern before.

Here you really see those gorgeous reclaimed floors. I love the chairs –Malawi Occasional Chair by Palacek, available through Mecox. Now, Mecox is super expensive, but here are a couple of similar, well-reviewed options for reasonable prices.
Eastham Rattan Side Chair, $213.99
Mixing high with low, she uses a less expensive table from Hayneedle — the Hillsdale Pine Island Extension Table. Not so crazy about the small rug. I like it when legs stay on a rug even when pulled out, but when you’re Lindsey Coral Harper, you can do whatever you want, and I’m just little ol’ me.

Anyone out there read my cream and white kitchen post??? I love a cream kitchen. While I’m not totally crazy about the chandelier next to the pendants, I love them both individually. Just think they compete a bit because they are close, but maybe it’s the camera angle. Getting back to cream and white, backsplash tile is actually a biscuit color, but it looks much brighter next to the deep cream walls. Could you imagine how stark it would look with a bright white? I love the brass trim treatment.
Really original.
The cabinets are the Winslow by Wellborn in in Divinity Java and Dormer Brown by Sherwin-Williams. Chandelier is the Vivienne Lantern in a custom size by Coleen & Co. Perimeter cabinets are in a ONE quartz Sandstorm by Daltile. Is beige making a comeback? I think so! Backsplash tile is Rittenhouse Square in Biscuit by Daltile (BISCUIT!!! This is revolutionary!) Barstools are the Belham Living Hutton Backless Counter Stool in Olive Green from Hayneedle.

Vogue Green by Sherwin-Williams. I soooooooo want to make my green bar area for the Handsome Husband!

The master bedroom is just darn perfect. So classy. No need to be funky. Lindsey takes one of my favorite colors — seafoam — and one of my favorite textures — grasscloth — and one of my favorite historically-inspired beds — the Bunny Williams Bamboo bed. Wallcovering is Cowtan and Tout’s Seagrass in Celeste. The trim is in SW’s Antique White again. Pillows and window treatments are in a favorite Thibaut fabric of mine — Fair Isle.
It also comes in a number of other colorways — including this happy blue/green combo — and matching wallpaper, if you want to wrap a room. (See my post on using matching wallpapers and fabrics here.)
Chandelier is the Tilda by Arteriors. I searched for the lamp source, and I think the editors messed up here. The app says that it’s the Blaise Table Lamp from Currey & Co.
Very nice, but not the one in the pic. If you know the source, pass on the info, please!

Another cream beauty, mixed with soft matte blue cement tiles. Biscuit Rittenhouse Square subway tile, as in the kitchen, but this time in a traditional brick layout. Belle cement tiles from Lili.

Probably one of the most lovely, original-but-not-in-your-face painted floor treatments I’ve seen by Jay C. Lohmann. I can’t believe it, but the bench is not on the app. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that it is the Ballard Designs Parsons Bench (ack, I just checked and it looks like Ballard discontinued the Parsons Bench. Ottoman is still around. Did you know that you can COM — customer’s own material — with Ballard? You don’t just have to use Ballard’s fabrics.)

I love this room. Perfectly balanced masculine/feminine, in my opinion. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the valence. Really like the color, just not the shape. Lots of vintage items here. Wall color is Sherwin Williams Canvas Tan. That awesome menswear rug is Stark’s Ednan pattern in Oatmeal. Upholstered Wave Platform beds are by Oomph, but you could have an upholsterer custom make this silhouette in a headboard, too. Lindsey uses a custom fabric and the app doesn’t give the source!?!?!?! What the heck am I looking this stuff up for, anyway??!?! Sorry. 😉

The show stealers in the bath are the wallpaper, the mirror, and the green floor. The orange and emerald combo is so unexpected (but wait! Kelly Rogers did something similar in an entry foyer here). The mirror is Oomph’s Easton Mirror, wallpaper is Romo’s Suvi in Clementine, and floor is Sherwin Williams Evergreen.

I love yellow, but it isn’t very popular in our gray and blue world. Super cool flush mount light is Currey & Co.’s Antibes. Bed is from Mecox, but it looks like this one and Zinc Door at least gives you a 15% off coupon for signing up. Still super pricey. Fabric on pillows and walls is Palmira by Hines.

Ahhhh…. blue and green. And one of my favorite wallcoverings that I’ve been dying to use — Acacia by Cole & Sons. The daybed (with trundle!! genius.) is from Lee Industries. Trim is Sherwin Williams Turkish Tile. Armchairs are by CR Laine.

Lindsey isn’t above a little DIY. She selected a round mirror from CB2 for the crofter bath and then hot-glued rope around it to match the interior style and hung it from a pulley she found on Amazon.
There are even more rooms in the online story and even more sources in the app, and I love them, too!. These are just my absolute favorites.
What about you? Anything new strike you? Is there a source you’re dying to find?

What a lovely home, and it makes me very happy to hear that cream is coming back….but it never really left for me. In our recently remodeled kitchen, my cabinets are linen colored, and all of the trim is a cottage white, not a crisp white. Pure white just doesn’t work in some homes, including my own.
I almost did a dance when I read your comment about the light fixtures in the kitchen fighting each other! It was the first thing I noticed about the room. It’s amazing what you can see when you look at a room in photos in addition to being there. Sometimes, I take pictures of my home to give me another perspective on how things look.
Thanks again for a lovely post.
Your kitchen sounds lovely!
Thanks for your feedback! The Idea House kitchen looks like is might have a rather tricky situation for lighting with the raised ceiling right behind the island. Both areas need some sort of drop-down fixture, and yet the areas are in super close proximity. Perhaps a more understated, clear island pendant would jive a little better, or if the fixtures related more. However, there are soooo many brilliant and original-yet-classic things going on in this kitchen, that I still find it very inspirational.
I totally agree. I took advantage of the chance to pin several of the pictures, and I would like to see more by this designer.
Oooh, I love this house! LCH is the best. Oh, and thank you for the shout-out! Not only was it green and orange, but also cream! Lol
I know! I find this house unusual, yet comfortable and *livable* in its colors.
I totally caught your Ben Moore Cake Batter CSP-215! I’m saving the image for my reference for later on. You rock, Kelly.
Where did the gray and white striped rug in the outdoor space come from?
